About the Artist

Frank Martinez influences are forms of art from past to present, the traditional to the new age of ceramics. Frank's work continues to evolve as he explores "the what if", the shape, texture, color and what can be change? The evolution of perfectionism, when applied to ceramic art, the artist's confidence in his processes to enter into new and un- familiar territory rather than producing the same work repeatedly. Frank has experimented with surface decoration, the glazing process, and he developed work that combined new throwing and hand-building techniques. His work had always been fired in gas kilns, because of cost and the inconsistent results these glazes produced; they weren't practical for the detailed work. He experiments with a variety of low-fire materials, from cone 10 changing to cone 8 to cone 6 by changing the chemical recipes and re-inventing the glaze.
